Will windows end soon, windows will end soon!

Days when we used to pay to get or use any software are behind us. And users of products like Microsoft windows will start to plummet soon. But why and how is this possible?

One word - “Open Source”. Open source as defined by google is “denoting software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified.

The best example of open source software that can compete with the tech giant Microsoft is Linux. Linux is an operating system which can be modified and used on literally any hardware. It is one of the safest software too because it is being continuously updated at a rate of around once every day compared to the windows update which comes at once or maybe twice a year. You can see the reason for Linux being so secure and reliable.

The reason linux can not be affected by a software issue is that it is the world's largest open source project with more than 11 thousand people working day and night to add new features and perfect the old ones.

For the next paragraph you need to understand what is a vulnerability. Definition of vulnerability in cyber security is - “Weakness in an information system, system security procedures, internal controls, or implementation that could be exploited or triggered by a threat source.

For every one bad person trying to find a vulnerability in linux there are 100 people trying to find and fix the same problem, which is why it is so rare to see linux being hacked.

Linux is being used right now on the servers of most large tech companies like google, facebook, amazon, NASA, etc. These large tech companies using linux is a signal that how capable linux is.

Coming here I have to tell you the god sent of the modern tech world who created and still manages linux is Linus Troval.

Linux is just one example from the vast ocean of open source. There are many more amazing softwares available for free.
